The Anthropology Program at NC State University operates under four guiding principles: (1) theory, method and application are interconnected, (2) a cross-cultural, comparative approach is essential to understand humans and their behavior past and present, (3) an uncompromising commitment to excellence in teaching is required of its faculty, and (4) opportunities for hands-on, real-world experiences are critical for successful graduates of the program.

Anthropology at NC State provides three, primary alternative tracks for the undergraduate major, (Applied, Bioarchaeology, and General) and three main concentrations for the graduate student (Bioarchaeology, Cultural Anthropology, and Environmental Anthropology). There are opportunities for bioarchaeological, ethnographic, and archaeological field schools, as well internships. Currently, our faculty have ongoing research projects in East Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America and the Caribbean, Italy and the South Pacific.
