English as a Second Language
The
NCSU ESL program serves the following purposes:
- To provide
an ESL teacher licensure program for currently
licensed North Carolina
public school teachers
- To administer an English placement
test to incoming NC State foreign undergraduate, graduate,
exchange, and special students
- To offer Foreign Language English
(FLE) classes to regularly enrolled international NC State
students
- To offer language improvement courses
to International Teaching Assistants
- To
provide noncredit intensive English language courses through
the 5-week Summer Institute in English
- To provide
information to NC State faculty, staff, and students, as
well as the residents of North Carolina,
regarding English-as-a-second-language resources
- To be a resource for educational professionals through NCSU’s on-line newsletter The ESL Globe
