English as a Second Language

The NCSU ESL program serves the following purposes:

  • To provide an ESL teacher licensure program for currently licensed North Carolina public school teachers

  • To administer an English placement test to incoming NC State foreign undergraduate, graduate, exchange, and special students

  • To offer Foreign Language English (FLE) classes to regularly enrolled international NC State students

  • To offer language improvement courses to International Teaching Assistants

  • To provide noncredit intensive English language courses through the 5-week Summer Institute in English

  • To provide information to NC State faculty, staff, and students, as well as the residents of North Carolina, regarding English-as-a-second-language resources

  • To be a resource for educational professionals through NCSU’s on-line newsletter The ESL Globe
