Teaching Portfolio

Upon completion of the ESL licensure program, each licensure candidate will need to submit a teaching portfolio to his/her supervisor for review. Do not submit your portfolio to our office.

Portfolios should be compiled based on the NCATE standards for ESL . You will need to print out pages 18-68. These standards are divided into five domains:

1. Language
2. Culture
3. Planning, Implementing and Managing Instruction
4. Assessment
5. Professionalism

Licensure candidates are encouraged to collect supporting documents needed to complete this portfolio throughout the licensure program.  Many of your course assignments may be used in your portfolio as supporting documents for the different standards.

Supervising administrators will submit a one-page report commenting on the strengths and weaknesses of the portfolio as well as areas for future development by the end of the internship course. Submission of the one-page report by your supervising administrator is required to complete the internship course.

Portfolio format

1. One-page introduction which describes the contents of the portfolio as well as the selection process.

2. You will need to include a short (1 page) reflective preface to each of the five domains.

3. You will then need to provide one exemplar from each standard within each of the five domains.

For example, domain 1, language, contains two standards: describing language and language acquisition and development.

There are 10 performance indicators for describing language. Choose one and provide an exemplar.

There are 13 performance indicators for language acquisition and development. Choose one and provide an exemplar.

Continue with the remaining four domains by documenting one standard within that domain.

4. For your conclusion, include a one-page self-evaluation.
