The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers 12 language minors. (See the 2008 minor report.)
Students majoring in any area of study at NC State are eligible to minor
in a foreign language. The minor cannot be in the same discipline as the major.
Students first obtain a minor declaration work sheet (download below,
Adobe Reader required) and consult with their
major advisor for approval of the minor program.
After the student obtains the major advisor's signature, he/she should
consult with the minor advisor to develop a plan of study indicating required
courses and expected dates of completion. Our administrative staff can direct
the student to the appropriate minor advisor.
The program requires fifteen hours of study in the minor discipline. The
Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will determine which courses
transferred from other institutions may qualify in meeting requirements for
the minor, as well as the number of transfer credits permitted to meet program
requirements. It is required that students will complete at least three required
courses either at NC State or at an NC State sponsored study-abroad program.
A grade of C- or better is required in all courses in the minor program.
Copies of the minor declaration work sheet and plan of study will be kept
in the Department.
You must see the Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising (Ms. Susan Navey-Davis) no later than the first week of your final semester at NC State in order to complete the Minor Application Form. This form certifies completion of the minor and is taken to your major department for processing with your graduation paperwork.
Students will receive official recognition
on their transcripts for a completed minor.
