The North Carolina Program for Forensic Science Mission Statement
The mission of the Forensic Program is fourfold: Education, Research, Technical Service and Extension.
  
Education:
• NCPFS maintains a central website
• Develops technical publications
• Maintains a list of certified experts in various technical and scientific fields
• Presents educational workshops such as Bugs, Bones and Botany©, Discovery and Recovery, Human Osteology, and other topical courses on specialized subjects.
Research:
• NCPFS pursues establishment of new standards for forensic identification, remote sensing, archaeological recovery, entomology, geology and chemistry in medicolegal investigations.
• Facilitates interdisciplinary research at North Carolina State University , other colleges and universities and with private sector researchers.
• Promotes collaboration with and between academia, government agencies, corporations, and private researchers that will assist criminal investigations and enhance the criminal justice process.
• Seeks to establish minimum standard protocols for medicolegal investigations.
Technical Service:
• Archaeological recovery of buried bodies and skeletonized remains.
• Analysis and identification of human skeletal remains.
• Anthropological determinations of ancestry, age and sex Identification of non human animal remains.
• Conducts geophysical survey using state-of-the art electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar equipment.
• Provides identification of experts in science and technology to law enforcement agencies.
