Introduction

Greetings from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University. We are a progressive department, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, extension and outreach. The department of Sociology and Anthropology offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees that lead to challenging and rewarding careers in both the public and private sectors. With a faculty of 34, who teach 10,000 students each academic year, the Department is one of the largest of its kind in the United States and one of the largest on the campus as well. The Department also serves the citizens of the state, including business, industry, government through its research, extension and outreach activities. These activities are as diverse as studies of poverty and inequality, archaeometry, cardiovascular mortality, child abuse, family issues, biotechnology and food safety to programs involving leadership development, industry needs assessment, conflict management and dispute resolution, and recycling and waste management, to name a few. The Department has a long history on the NCSU campus, tracing its roots back to 1920. The Department has programs of study, research, extension and outreach in two colleges, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, CHASS, and the College of Agriculture and LifeSciences, CALS.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is working to build a community that is inclusive and welcoming to all people, including those with disabilities.
