Residency and Transfer Requirments

Residency Requirement

  •  A minimum of 15 hours in the major, including at least 9 hours at the 400 leve or above completed at NC Statel.

Intra-Campus Transfer Requirements 

  • The Department of Sociology and Anthropology (CHASS and CALS) will automatically accept students who have completed at least 12 hours at NC State with GPA of 3.0 or better. Students who have met this criteria may enter the College at any time in the year. CHASS students should proceed to the Dean's Office in Caldwell 106. CALS students should see the departmental secretary.
  • Students intending to enter the department of Sociology and Anthropology may apply for entrance if they have completed 12 hours, have GPAs between 2.5-3.0, and have met the specific departmental requirements elaborated below. Application deadlines are February 15, June 15, and September 15. Please understand that admission is competitive and meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Students will be notified within a month as to whether they have been accepted.

Departmental Requirements (For students transferrring with a 2.5-3.0 GPA)

  • Sociology and Anthropology: For Sociology and Criminology, students should have completed SOC 202 with a grade of B- or better. For Anthropology, students should have recieved a grade of B- or better in ANT 251, 252, 253, or 254. For more information click here.
