The department's outreach and engagement efforts emphasize four types of activities within eight focus areas. The focal areas for our department include:

Activities within these areas are educational programs for adults and youth, technical assistance, applied research to generate useful information in various programs, and dissemination of policy-relevant research results to appropriate audiences. Many of these activities have involved collaboration with other departments on campus as well as other agencies and organizations throughout the state and region. Currently three faculty members have formal appointments with North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
