IPRC 2000 Pilot Survey of NC Teens (ages 14-17) in Construction Work

Source: IPRC 2000 Pilot Survey of NC Teens (ages 14-17) in Construction Work (N=123). Sample based on work permits filed with NC Dept. of Labor for June and July, 2000. Response rate = 73%.

Teens are hired by both large and small construction firms. They often work with dangerous equipment and in settings where they are exposed to a a variety of hazards.

Teens in construction have little control over the work they do, including their exposure to dangers.

These teen construction workers are mostly male. They are socialized into an occupational culture that accepts hazards and injury as part of the job.
